My WordPress Development Process

Concept & Design

Design provided by client or from a commercial WordPress template
I can work with a completed design in PSD format or a commercial theme. This option is especially helpful if:

  1. You are short on budget and cannot afford an original design;
  2. You are short on time and want the site done asap;
  3. You already have a design ready and only needs minor fixes.

Custom-made WordPress theme
If you are looking for a custom design, I can also make one for you. For original designs, allow at least 1-2 weeks for the design phase–including revisions.

Extra Costs
Before the start of any project, I ask the client about features/requirements and then we decide on a budget. I bill the client for extra expenses including:

  1. License to commercial plugins;
  2. Stock photos;
  3. Extra staffing requirements, if required (writers, developers, etc.);
  4. Other expenses.

The client must agree to an email contract, and first time clients must pay a down payment of 30%.

Development

When the original design is ready and approved by you or when I have received the PSD/commercial WP theme file, I start building your website.

When possible, I build WordPress websites using a framework. This reduces the time of developing the website and I can have it ready in as short as a week (depending on site requirements/features/content). At the moment my fave frameworks are

I will be working on my server during development. After the site is complete and I am paid in full, I will then migrate the website to the client-server. I can take care of installing WordPress on your server if it is not yet ready. If required, I may also setup the database, tweak your hosting setup for optimized WordPress settings and create the email account for your WP user profile.

Depending on the site requirements, development time may take from one week (e.g. simple blog) to a month (e.g. online store, large company websites).

Launch & Support

Your site goes live. I give free website support for two weeks after the site goes live. This includes:

  1. Correcting typo errors;
  2. Help in adding pages and posts, up to a maximum of 10 each;
  3. Minor design fixes;

Free website support does not include:

  1. Major design revisions that need new templates;
  2. Adding plugins that need changes in templates or more design;
  3. More than 10 pages or posts.
  4. Any feature not included in the original agreement.

Free Extras

For all WordPress projects, I include the following extras:

  1. Generic WordPress Admin PDF Manual.

For projects with budget of USD 500 and up

  1. Personal tutorial on using WordPress and 2 PDF Manuals ( 1. a generic but more extensive admin manual and 2. a customized manual with screenshots of your website’s admin area).

For projects with budget of USD 800 and up

  1. Register your website to CloudFlare. This is useful for speeding up your site and security. NOTE: this only works if you can modify your DNS host.
  2. Register your website to Google Apps, Google Analytics, Google Feedburner.
